National Women in Engineering Day – Katherine Rogers

Post by Katherine Rogers, Mouchel Consulting

I wanted to be involved in construction from a very young age. I remember crossing the M25 construction site on the way to my grandparents’ house and wanting to play with the diggers. As I grew older I became fascinated by all the different activities that were going on, and was amazed that anyone could coordinate it, sparking my career in project management.

When I was a site agent I was in charge of the major construction of a bypass, including a bridge to carry the new dual carriageway over the River Medway. This project was such a huge learning curve for me, due to the enormity of the work, and seeing it through to completion was extremely rewarding.

My typical work day is extremely varied, as I work on a wide range of projects so I get involved with such things as: consultancy, project management and stakeholder management.  There is a role for everybody in this industry, whether you’re a technical wizard, a brilliant organiser or a people person. It’s a career where you really can tell that you’re improving the world around you.

I look forward to seeing the huge steps that the transport industry takes over the course of the next decade, and I’ll feel incredibly proud any contribution I can make.
